About the role

  • Lead high-voltage transmission and substation engineering projects for Qualus, a power infrastructure solutions firm. Coordinate design, construction, commissioning, budgets, schedules, and multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and perform engineering coordination on 12 kV to 500 kV overhead and underground transmission and substation projects from conceptual design through construction
  • Coordinate electrical, civil, structural, telecom, and protection & control engineering and design teams
  • Support project managers and discipline leaders
  • Prepare construction specifications
  • Write and plan project scopes, proposals, estimates, change notices, budgets, and similar documents
  • Manage engineering costs and maintain schedules by monitoring project progress, coordinating activities, and resolving problems
  • Review design documentation with the Owner’s Engineer
  • Review vendor documents against specifications
  • Coordinate with procurement for ordering materials and major electrical equipment
  • Coordinate construction and commissioning activities with utility clients and subcontractors
  • Respond to construction-site information requests and complete project documentation, including as-builts, calculations, and client data returns
  • Travel to site and liaise with internal groups, external contractors, and clients
  • Maintain relationships with internal groups, external contractors, and clients
  • Lead projects through construction and commissioning, including mentoring junior engineers and designers
  • Fulfill Professional Record duties when required
  • Integrate current safe practices and methods into designs
  • Work within assigned budgets and schedules

Requirements

  • Electrical Engineering Degree from a recognized university
  • Canadian Professional Engineering Designation (P.Eng.) or the ability to register as a Professional Engineer with EGBC
  • 8-15 years of substation electrical experience in a Transmission & Distribution Utility or EPC organization designing substations
  • North American power utility design experience is considered an asset
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in the United States is considered an asset
  • Experience interfacing design with other substation engineering disciplines such as structural and protection & control
  • Proven field experience with outage planning, construction sequencing, and commissioning is considered an asset
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong understanding of regulatory codes and standards, including CSA, NESC, and ANSI / IEEE
