About the role

  • Senior Structural Engineer designing substations, transmission structures, and GIS buildings for Qualus, a power infrastructure solutions firm. Leading structural projects, client coordination, and integrated engineering delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to structural design, technical support, and quality assurance/quality control review for substation facilities, transmission towers and poles, control rooms, and indoor GIS switchgear buildings
  • Perform structural analysis and modeling using SAP2000, LPILE, SAFE, and MathCAD
  • Prepare and review detailed design documents, including design basis, design reports, design plans, construction specifications, field review plans, and reports
  • Review vendor documents against specifications
  • Respond to construction-site requests and complete project documentation, including as-builts, calculations, and returning data to clients
  • Coordinate and oversee project resource planning, scope, schedule, and budget for a structural discipline project team
  • Establish and maintain relationships with external business partners; present information and respond to client questions
  • Direct or participate in client meetings and job-site visits to collect or deliver design and engineering data
  • Mentor less experienced engineering team members
  • Collaborate with other engineering disciplines to ensure integrated project delivery

Requirements

  • Structural Engineering Degree from a recognized university
  • Canadian Professional Engineering Designation (P.Eng.) or the ability to register as a Professional Engineer with EGBC
  • 8+ years of structural engineering design experience
  • Experience with structural design for utility substations, particularly projects for BC Hydro is considered an asset
  • Knowledge of applicable Canadian codes and standards, including Occupational Health and Safety Regulations and CSA standards, as well as North American transmission structure design standards
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
