About the role
- Public Health Nurse supporting Peel Region’s substance use prevention programs. Providing community health education, client counselling, partnership development, and emergency response.
Responsibilities
- Apply population health, public health, and nursing science concepts to guide practice
- Provide health information, teaching, and counselling to individuals, groups, families, and communities
- Assess client health status holistically and consider determinants of health
- Recognize epidemiological data and service delivery patterns and trends
- Identify information sources, community assets, resources, and values
- Establish goals, outcome indicators, and evaluation measures with clients
- Support clients in identifying health risks and making informed protective, preventive, and health-promoting choices
- Facilitate community engagement and define health issues using community development and assessment skills
- Plan, develop, implement, and evaluate public health strategies using Evidence Informed Decision-Making
- Advocate for and contribute to healthy public policy
- Collaborate with partners to address public health issues and service gaps
- Develop and facilitate intersectoral partnerships and networks
- Promote equitable access to health and related services and address social justice issues
- Communicate about Peel Region services, public health programs, and community resources
- Mentor and orient students, new staff, and colleagues
- Participate in workgroups, research, quality assurance, and professional development initiatives
- Support change management and workplace culture initiatives
- Fulfill legal and professional nursing obligations
- Participate in emergency preparedness, planning, training, and public health emergency response

Requirements
- Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing or equivalent as recognized by a Canadian University
- Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse by the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Previous nursing experience, or public/community health nursing experience, or public health consolidation placement as part of a BScN degree
- Current certification in CPR (BLS)
- Understanding of Peel’s diverse community and associated health impacts
- Ability to provide non-stigmatizing, equitable and inclusive care
- Ability to establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with internal and external partners
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills, including diplomacy and confidentiality
