About the role

  • Senior Financial Analyst advising Peel Region’s Human Services leadership on budgeting, forecasting, and reporting. Developing financial models and recommendations for municipal programs.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic financial advice and support to Human Services leadership
  • Perform budgeting, forecasting, and reporting for Human Services divisions
  • Identify business trends and drivers and maintain or develop financial models
  • Develop workflow schedules for budget and corporate reporting cycles
  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with managers, directors, and business partners
  • Advise on business sustainability, council priorities, and program financial outlook
  • Influence annual budget development, financial and management reporting, and complex business decisions
  • Create reports and presentations that identify root causes and clearly communicate findings
  • Review council reports and business cases and conduct cost-benefit analyses
  • Provide financial recommendations to business partners
  • Assess financial processes and the efficiency and appropriateness of financial controls
  • Interpret financial policies, by-laws, procedures, and legislation
  • Prepare year-end working papers and financial statements for ministry reporting
  • Coach and review Financial Analysts’ accounting, reporting, procedures, and documentation work

Requirements

  • Relevant university degree
  • Recognized professional accounting designation (CA/CGA/CMA/CPA/ACCA)
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience preparing annual budgets, forecasts, and cash flow statements
  • An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered
  • Strong computer skills, specifically MS Office and PeopleSoft Financials; Hyperion is an asset
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Planning, organizational, prioritization, and attention-to-detail skills
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member
  • Knowledge of applicable legislation, regulations, standards, municipal issues, services, and processes is an asset
  • Excellent relationship-building skills
