About the role
- Senior Financial Analyst advising Peel Region’s Human Services leadership on budgeting, forecasting, and reporting. Developing financial models and recommendations for municipal programs.
Responsibilities
- Provide strategic financial advice and support to Human Services leadership
- Perform budgeting, forecasting, and reporting for Human Services divisions
- Identify business trends and drivers and maintain or develop financial models
- Develop workflow schedules for budget and corporate reporting cycles
- Build and maintain collaborative relationships with managers, directors, and business partners
- Advise on business sustainability, council priorities, and program financial outlook
- Influence annual budget development, financial and management reporting, and complex business decisions
- Create reports and presentations that identify root causes and clearly communicate findings
- Review council reports and business cases and conduct cost-benefit analyses
- Provide financial recommendations to business partners
- Assess financial processes and the efficiency and appropriateness of financial controls
- Interpret financial policies, by-laws, procedures, and legislation
- Prepare year-end working papers and financial statements for ministry reporting
- Coach and review Financial Analysts’ accounting, reporting, procedures, and documentation work
Requirements
- Relevant university degree
- Recognized professional accounting designation (CA/CGA/CMA/CPA/ACCA)
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience preparing annual budgets, forecasts, and cash flow statements
- An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered
- Strong computer skills, specifically MS Office and PeopleSoft Financials; Hyperion is an asset
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Planning, organizational, prioritization, and attention-to-detail skills
- Ability to work independently and as a team member
- Knowledge of applicable legislation, regulations, standards, municipal issues, services, and processes is an asset
