About the role
- Senior/Staff Data Scientist shaping metrics, experimentation, and analytics foundations for Render’s developer cloud platform. Partnering across product and business teams to drive data-informed decisions.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a strategic analytics partner to leaders and cross-functional partners across Product, Engineering, Growth, Go-to-Market, Finance, and other teams.
- Identify high-impact questions, frame decisions, and determine how success should be measured.
- Define KPIs and measurement frameworks for acquisition, activation, adoption, engagement, retention, conversion, expansion, and customer outcomes.
- Surface patterns across users, customers, products, and the business.
- Identify opportunities, diagnose friction, and help determine investments and priorities.
- Design and analyze experiments, develop guardrail metrics, and evaluate initiatives.
- Define instrumentation and measurement plans for new products, programs, and initiatives.
- Build and maintain dbt models, semantic layers, and context layers with Analytics Engineering.
- Transform behavioral and business data into reliable datasets supporting decision-making across Render.
- Establish analytical best practices and improve data-driven decision-making.
- Mentor scientists and cross-functional partners on measurement, experimentation, and data literacy.
- Explore AI-assisted tools to make analytics faster and more accessible while maintaining accuracy and analytical judgment.
Requirements
- 7+ years of analytics experience.
- Track record of shaping strategy and influencing decisions across complex or ambiguous problem spaces.
- Strong business and product judgment.
- Experience defining and using metrics across Product, Growth, Go-to-Market, Finance, or other business domains.
- Strong SQL skills, including writing complex, efficient SQL and independently exploring large datasets.
- Experience using experimentation, statistical analysis, or other rigorous evaluation methods to understand impact.
- Experience with modern analytics tooling such as Metabase, Mixpanel, dbt, BigQuery, Segment, and Git.
- Track record of influencing cross-functional teams and senior leaders without direct authority.
- Excellent communication skills, including explaining technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
- Experience using AI-assisted coding or analytics tools such as Codex, Cursor, or Claude Code.
- Expertise in statistical methods beyond traditional A/B testing is a nice-to-have.
- Experience with developer-focused, product-led, sales-led, or usage-based businesses is a nice-to-have.
- Knowledge of cloud infrastructure, PaaS, developer tooling, or other technically complex products is a nice-to-have.
- Experience analyzing multi-product or multi-segment businesses is a nice-to-have.
