Senior Electrical Engineer leading high - voltage design and delivery for GHD’s Canadian engineering, energy, and infrastructure projects. Coordinating multidisciplinary teams, construction support, commissioning, and client delivery.
About the role
- Electrical Engineer IV leading substation design, calculations, and client solutions. Supporting RRC’s U.S. and Canadian renewable energy engineering projects.
Responsibilities
- Lead the development and review of equipment layouts, grounding systems, bus configurations, conductor and cable schedules, and general arrangement drawings
- Perform and oversee grounding analysis, cable sizing, voltage drop, fault current, and equipment ratings calculations
- Lead equipment selection, specification development, and vendor drawing reviews
- Prepare, review, and approve design packages and technical documentation
- Coordinate across engineering, design, and project management teams
- Perform and oversee quality control reviews for accuracy, completeness, and compliance
- Manage multiple projects while meeting scope, schedule, and budget requirements
- Ensure designs comply with IEEE, NEC, NESC, and ANSI standards
- Interface with clients, resolve technical issues, and present engineering solutions
- Support proposal development, scope definition, and project planning
- Conduct site visits and field inspections and provide construction support as needed
- Mentor junior staff
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Engineering, or related field
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required
- 8+ years of experience in power delivery, renewable energy, or power generation
- Demonstrated experience leading substation design projects and mentoring junior staff
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, MicroStation, and electrical analysis software (ETAP, CYME, SKM, PSCAD)
- Strong knowledge of IEEE, NESC, NEC, and ANSI codes and standards
- Experience with PVcase and PVCAD a plus
- Knowledge of utility-scale wind and solar projects, including MV power systems and AC/DC distribution systems, a plus
- Experience with Battery Energy Storage Systems, a plus
- Manufacturer experience with power transformers, circuit breakers, AIS/GIS switchgear, AC/DC inverters, etc.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Master’s degree preferred
