RSM tax-credit manager preparing and defending SR&ED claims and Clean Economy incentives. Advising Canadian businesses on eligible costs, credits, grants, and compliance.
Responsibilities
Prepare higher-complexity SR&ED tax incentive claims and assist with claim reviews
Maintain contact with clients and gather information from operations, finance, accounting, payroll, engineering, and accounting partners
Prepare project costing and complete tax return input
Support client engagements involving Clean Economy Investment Tax Credits and other government incentives
Assess eligibility, classify eligible expenditures and capital assets, quantify potential benefits, and support documentation and claim preparation
Cultivate client relationships and provide consultation throughout the SR&ED claim lifecycle
Meet with clients in person and virtually to establish engagement plans, evaluate eligible activities, and gather supporting documentation
Collaborate with technical, engineering, accounting, tax, and finance professionals to bridge project facts, cost support, tax legislation, and client-ready deliverables
Lead clients through FTCAS or Review/Audit processes with the Canada Revenue Agency and provincial bodies
Gather and submit requested information and documents and attend CRA or provincial meetings
Advise on tax credits and deductions and develop practical advice on Clean Economy ITCs, grants, and incentives
Manage a portfolio of client engagements and deliver work on time and within budget
Assist with forecasting and management of larger or more complex engagements
Contribute to business development by identifying, researching, and pursuing incentives opportunities
Pursue ongoing education and contribute to development of the team’s SR&ED finance/tax, Clean Economy, and incentives capabilities
Requirements
2 to 5+ years of previous experience claiming SR&ED tax credits and supporting claim defense
Finance/tax-focused experience including costing, eligible expenditure analysis, documentation support, and tax return input
Experience with, or strong interest in developing expertise in, Clean Economy ITCs or other federal and provincial incentives
Undergraduate university degree in business, accounting, tax, corporate finance, or equivalent
Strong ability to interpret tax legislation and administrative guidance, analyze cost and capital data, and communicate conclusions to technical and non-technical stakeholders
Proficiency using TaxPrep/iFirm and MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Strong Excel skills for costing, allocation, and support schedules
Outstanding client service abilities and superior verbal and written communication skills
Ability to collaborate across SR&ED finance, technical, tax, and industry teams
Ability to manage multiple client assignments, prioritize tasks, and work autonomously to meet deadlines
MPAcc or equivalent and/or CPA designation preferred but not required
In-depth Tax course completion considered an asset
Experience with other tax preparation software such as ProFile, TaxCycle, or CanTax preferred
Experience claiming Alberta Innovation Employment Grant and/or Quebec R&D credit preferred
Experience with Clean Technology, Clean Technology Manufacturing, Clean Hydrogen, CCUS, and Clean Electricity ITCs preferred
Familiarity with energy transition, decarbonization, critical minerals, clean technology, manufacturing, hydrogen, electricity, carbon capture, or other capital-intensive sectors preferred
Bilingualism in English and French would be an asset
