About the role

  • Intermediate Software Developer building Java and Spring applications for Smile Digital Health’s FHIR-based healthcare data platform. Designing, testing, and maintaining interoperable healthcare data solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with all areas of the business to gather product requirements
  • Design, implement, and test system components
  • Support the design, development, and implementation of applications using web technologies
  • Create and maintain detailed technical product and end-user support documentation
  • Evaluate requirements and propose high-level design and technical solutions
  • Analyze solutions and applications for interoperability, performance, and maintainability
  • Write high-quality, well-documented code according to coding standards
  • Evaluate and provide accurate development timelines
  • Participate in and perform code reviews
  • Investigate and resolve complex technical challenges
  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of technologies used in solution modules, including machine learning, data storage, and data capture frameworks
  • Advise on technical design and industry trends
  • Support colleagues on complex projects and provide expert advice for escalated challenges
  • Participate in establishing and maintaining software development best practices
  • Contribute to all phases of the Software Development Lifecycle, including analysis, design, implementation, verification, and maintenance

Requirements

  • 5+ years of full-cycle software development lifecycle experience
  • Experience in the healthcare and/or technology industry preferred
  • Post-secondary education in computer science, computer engineering, or similar and/or equivalent work experience
  • Hands-on experience with Java and the Spring framework
  • Experience building and consuming RESTful APIs
  • Experience with relational databases using SQL
  • Experience using Git for version control in collaborative development environments
  • Solid understanding of the full software development lifecycle
  • Experience with continuous integration (CI) pipelines for build automation
  • Experience with containerization and deployment using Docker
  • Knowledge of related DevOps practices
  • Experience developing middleware products
  • Unit test practices (TDD)
  • Experience with transaction processing
  • Creating and maintaining clear technical documentation
  • Ability to maintain repositories with a focus on code health and quality
  • Experience in end-to-end feature development
  • Knowledge or experience in healthcare, HL7/FHIR is an asset
  • Full-stack development experience, Angular, JavaScript, Node.js, npm, HTTP protocols, and browser-based development are nice to have
