About the role

  • Power electronics engineer designing and testing high-power converters, UPS, and energy storage systems at Socomec. Modeling, controls, PCBA design, HIL testing, and standards compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement simulation models using MATLAB/Simulink, PSpice, PSCAD, PSIM, and other relevant software
  • Design and implement advanced control strategies for multilevel inverters for high-power UPS and ESS applications
  • Conduct Hardware-in-the-Loop testing using OPAL-RT and Typhoon real-time simulators
  • Design and optimize PCBA schematics and layouts using Altium Designer
  • Develop and execute test plans for high-power UPS systems around 3 MVA, including functional, performance, reliability, specification, standards, and safety testing
  • Evaluate, design, size, characterize, and control IGBT-based power modules
  • Design and analyze AC/AC, AC/DC, DC/AC, and DC/DC converter topologies, controllers, and modulation techniques
  • Ensure compliance with UL1778, UL60950, IEC 62040, FCC Part 15, and other applicable standards
  • Investigate and troubleshoot power electronics issues through simulation-based analysis, identify root causes, and propose solutions

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, or a related field
  • Minimum of 3 years of related industrial experience in power electronics
  • Experience simulating and modeling power electronic systems, especially power converters and inverters
  • Experience using COMSOL for physics-based modeling and simulation, including thermal analysis, electromagnetic behavior, and Multiphysics interactions
  • Proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink, PSpice, PSCAD, PSIM, or similar software
  • Familiarity with designing magnetic components such as transformers, inductors, ferrites, chokes, and line filters
  • Knowledge of digital control techniques, microcontroller-based systems, and firmware development
  • Familiarity with communication protocols for integrating power electronic systems into larger networks or control schemes
  • Familiarity with hardware design principles and collaboration with hardware engineers
  • Proficiency creating and maintaining electrical schematics and system layouts using EPLAN Electric
  • Familiarity with battery management systems, energy storage technologies, and renewable energy systems
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines
