About the role
- Trust & Safety ML Engineer safeguarding Hapiko’s generative-AI sticker printer for children. Owning moderation pipelines, safety evaluations, classifiers, red teaming, and compliance systems.
Responsibilities
- Own and maintain content moderation end to end, from what a child says to the image that prints, including copyrighted and licensed characters
- Maintain and grow safety evaluation suites and use them to decide when model, prompt, or threshold changes are ready to ship
- Continuously improve classifiers and decide where in-house and third-party models fit best
- Tune moderation to reduce over-blocking without weakening protection
- Run ongoing red teaming against models and pipeline
- Maintain review tooling for flagged content and parent reports
- Own the incident response runbook for safety issues
- Maintain the technical side of compliance obligations, including data retention and deletion
- Partner with ML and Backend/Platform engineers to build safety into new models and features before shipment
Requirements
- Applied safety engineering experience on a product with real users
- Experience building evals or classifiers for harmful content, not just configuring a vendor API
- Strong software engineering skills in Python
- Ability to ship production code in the moderation path that is fast and fail-safe
- Comfort with precision/recall tradeoffs
- Judgment to set thresholds when both kinds of error have a cost
- Good judgment under pressure
