About the role

  • Technical Proposal Specialist/Engineer developing medium-voltage switchgear quotes, layouts, pricing, and designs for S&C Electric’s power-grid solutions. Liaising with sales, customers, engineering, and production in hybrid Toronto role.

Responsibilities

  • Act as liaison between the sales team and S&C’s design and production teams for custom Metal-Enclosed Switchgear (MES)
  • Handle quotes and orders for medium-voltage metal-enclosed switchgear in assigned territories
  • Review customer project specifications, single-line diagrams, and utility conditions-of-service documents
  • Prepare customized proposal sketches, switchgear dimensional layouts, pricing, and commercial strategies
  • Participate in customer site visits, meetings, and customer-witnessed Factory Acceptance Tests
  • Prepare detailed design specifications for electrical and mechanical designers
  • Review switchgear drawings and follow up on design change requests
  • Respond to technical inquiries from customers, sales, and design teams
  • Coordinate project requirements from order entry through shipping
  • Visit the production shop to develop and visualize switchgear design concepts
  • Improve current processes using 4-Step Problem Solving methods
  • Provide technical MES proposals and liaise directly with end customers when required
  • Work on complex proposals with minimal support

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
  • 5+ years of experience working with electrical equipment in technical design, commercial customer service, or manufacturing
  • Understanding of power system protection and control applications for low- and/or medium-voltage electrical distribution
  • Intermediate knowledge of medium-voltage switchgear design
  • Technical knowledge of S&C MES-related products: Vista, System VI, and PMH/PME
  • Ability to read electrical single-line diagrams
  • Knowledge of UL, CSA, ANSI, and IEEE electrical equipment standards
  • Experience with MicroStation or other CAD software
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • P.Eng. considered an asset
  • Ability to perform workplace activities involving standing, sitting, walking, climbing stairs, and lifting/moving/using objects or equipment up to 20 lbs
