About the role

  • Financial Analyst preparing budgets, forecasts, variance analyses, and consolidated reports for Sun Life’s Group Benefits business. Supporting financial decision-making through reporting, controls analysis, regulatory submissions, and ad-hoc analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and distribute comprehensive reporting templates to business lines for monthly, quarterly, and annual planning processes
  • Analyze information reported by business units
  • Consolidate business unit data, explain variances, and draft commentaries
  • Prepare reporting packages for finance meetings
  • Validate Supplementary Financial Information before release
  • Compile rating agency surveys and year-end regulatory reporting
  • Prepare ad-hoc analyses
  • Maintain comprehensive internal management reports supporting decision-making
  • Assist with the annual budget, quarterly forecast, and variance analysis
  • Prepare complex financial reports and consolidated reports
  • Identify control gaps and resulting issues
  • Manage or participate in projects

Requirements

  • 3–6 years of experience in a financial analysis role
  • 1–2 years of financial analysis/accounting work experience
  • University degree with a major in Accounting or Finance
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to gather, synthesize, organize, and report information
  • Ability to summarize large amounts of data, isolate business drivers, and articulate findings in commentaries
  • Strong MS Office and excellent Excel skills, including Pivot Tables and V/X-lookups
  • Detail-oriented and well-organized
  • Good communication skills and ability to present to senior leadership
  • Ability to multi-task and work under pressure during critical reporting periods
  • Bilingualism in French and English, oral and written, required for Quebec positions
  • Pursuit of CPA designation is an asset
  • Working knowledge of MS Access
  • Experience in diverse system environments, including SAP and mainframe applications
  • Knowledge of financial services industry and/or insurance business processes and products
  • Overtime and flexible work hours may be required during peak reporting periods
  • Reliability Status Clearance required, including a Government of Canada law enforcement inquiry and credit check
  • Must account for activities during any period of 6 consecutive months lived or travelled outside Canada during the last 5 years
