About the role

  • Financial Analyst supporting reconciliations, audits, and controls for Sun Life Canada’s group benefits and health solutions business. Improving finance processes across a hybrid Waterloo/Toronto team.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare accurate, complete, informative account reconciliations meeting Sun Life standards
  • Identify, investigate, and resolve reconciliation differences with business partners
  • Support internal and external audits, including retrieving audit samples and participating in control-process walkthroughs
  • Validate, improve, and document key business processes and controls
  • Identify opportunities to transform manual, high-volume, and/or complex functions
  • Participate in projects and ad-hoc requests as needed
  • Report to the Manager, Financial Controls

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3+ years of experience in reconciliations, financial reporting and/or internal controls
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office tools
  • Excel proficiency with Pivot Tables and X/V-look ups
  • Willingness to understand accounting flows from source-to-ledger and relate accounting to business processes and transactions
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal and collaboration skills
  • Self-motivated, results-oriented and flexible to changing priorities and timelines
  • Proven technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Previous experience with Frontier or other reconciliation tools and SAP preferred
  • A CPA, other designation or diploma/degree in accounting is considered an asset
  • Must obtain Reliability Status Clearance, including a law enforcement inquiry and credit check
  • Must account for activities if lived or travelled outside Canada for 6 consecutive months during the last 5 years
