About the role
- Insurance litigation counsel representing TD Insurance and policyholders in Alberta. Handling strategy, research, pleadings, mediations, trials, and complex injury or property-damage claims.
Responsibilities
- Handle assigned insurance legal matters
- Represent TD Insurance or its policyholders in civil litigation involving personal injury or property damage claims
- Develop and revise legal strategy for questioning, investigation, case handling, and trial
- Communicate with TD Insurance analysts and insured clients
- Conduct questionings, applications, trials, and mediations
- Research applicable law
- Draft legal documents, pleadings, applications, and legal factums
- Remain current with developments in the law
Requirements
- Completion of law school with LLB
- Admission to the bar in Alberta
- Minimum 5 years' experience as a lawyer
- Background in insurance defense litigation or other litigation, including personal injury or general litigation
- Knowledge of legal and court documents and procedures
- Knowledge of standard office equipment and word processing
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Ability to edit and proof legal documents
- Ability to work productively under pressure
- Strong interpersonal and client service skills
- Superior organizational and priority-setting skills
