About the role

  • Counsel advising TD, a major North American bank, on Canadian Personal Bank products, consumer protection, and regulatory risk. Drafting agreements and guiding business partners across jurisdictions.

Responsibilities

  • Provide risk-calibrated legal advice and manage legal and regulatory risk for TD's Canadian Personal Bank
  • Translate complex legal issues into clear, practical guidance for business partners
  • Support the development, launch, and evolution of Canadian Personal Bank products and initiatives
  • Identify issues and provide practical risk insight to support decision-making
  • Participate in product development, issue-spotting, and regulatory change initiatives
  • Advise business and control partners on compliance with federal and provincial legislation
  • Support resolution of customer issues and complaints
  • Monitor and support advocacy on new federal and provincial legislation and regulations
  • Advise the Legal Department and supported businesses on legal developments
  • Draft and review customer-facing agreements and communications
  • Support management of regulatory relationships and investigations
  • Contribute to Legal Department initiatives, including knowledge management and workflow improvement

Requirements

  • Relevant professional certification or equivalent required (J.D./LL.B)
  • Licensed to practice law in Ontario
  • 7+ years relevant experience
  • Ability to work and communicate in French is a strong asset
  • Knowledge of Quebec consumer protection laws is a strong asset
  • Professional graduate degree in Quebec Civil law (LL.L) is an asset
  • Licensed to practice law in Quebec is an asset
  • Ability to provide legal advice across relevant jurisdictions
  • Excellent business and legal judgment
  • Ability to provide clear, concise, and timely advice in demanding, time-sensitive environments
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities
  • Ability to work effectively on cross-functional teams
