Responsibilities

  • Cover breaking and live economic and fiscal policy news from Ottawa
  • Frequently pitch fresh, compelling story ideas
  • Develop and maintain sources in government and business
  • Write clearly and concisely on deadline
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the department and wider newsroom to generate story ideas and enrich coverage
  • Produce source-based scoops, breaking and scheduled news, enterprise reporting, and features
  • Think beyond standard storytelling formats
  • Participate in Globe subscriber events
  • Report to the politics and economy editor
  • Work closely with the economics and business reporting team in The Globe’s Ottawa bureau

Requirements

  • At least five years’ experience as a reporter in a daily news organization
  • Solid news judgment with a track record of enterprise work
  • Ability to translate fiscal and economic policy into engaging prose
  • Familiarity with political reporting and economics
  • Strong writing with versatile range, from hard news to human-interest features to explanatory journalism
  • Comfortable working in live blogs, newsletters, video and audio formats
  • Cover letter with three links to previous work
