- Economics reporter covering Canadian government and fiscal policy for The Globe and Mail from Ottawa. Producing scoops, breaking news, enterprise reporting, and explanatory features across formats.
Responsibilities
- Cover breaking and live economic and fiscal policy news from Ottawa
- Frequently pitch fresh, compelling story ideas
- Develop and maintain sources in government and business
- Write clearly and concisely on deadline
- Collaborate with colleagues across the department and wider newsroom to generate story ideas and enrich coverage
- File source-based scoops, breaking and scheduled news, enterprise reporting, and features
- Participate in Globe subscriber events
- Connect policymaking to the people, companies, and regions affected by government decisions
Requirements
- At least five years’ experience as a reporter in a daily news organization
- Solid news judgment with a track record of enterprise work
- Ability to translate fiscal and economic policy into engaging prose
- Familiarity with political reporting and economics
- Strong writing with a versatile range, from hard news to human-interest features to explanatory journalism
- Comfortable working in live blogs, newsletters, video, and audio formats
- Cover letter, resume, and three links to previous work required
