About the role
- Labour Relations Consultant advising British Columbia health employers on labour, employment, privacy, and human rights law. Supporting hearings, dispute resolution, and provincial health-sector bargaining.
Responsibilities
- Perform labour relations advisory and consulting services as part of HEABC’s in-house legal services and labour relations team
- Provide advice and opinions on policy and labour relations issues
- Attend trouble-shooter and expedited hearings
- Assist with negotiations planning
- Support the Lead Negotiator at the bargaining table with research and drafting documents
- Provide labour relations advice to members on labour, employment law, privacy law, workplace health and safety, and human rights law issues
- Interpret collective agreements, legislation, and policy
- Apply established interpretations and guidelines consistently across the health sector
- Establish and maintain working relationships with member organizations, health sector unions, outside agencies, and HEABC colleagues
- Represent HEABC and member organizations at meetings to resolve disputes before formal third-party hearings
- Address employer-specific and industry issues
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in industrial relations, business or a related discipline from an accredited University
- Minimum of seven (7) years’ recent, related experience in labour relations and/or labour and employment law or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
- Knowledge of health sector labour relations, related legislation, collective agreements and jurisprudence
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Demonstrated analytical, conflict resolution and problem-solving skills
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
- Demonstrated ability to organize, plan and execute work within demanding work schedules
- Must live within commuting distance of the Vancouver office
