Labour Relations Consultant advising British Columbia health employers on labour, employment, privacy, and human rights law. Supporting hearings, dispute resolution, and provincial health-sector bargaining.
Responsibilities
Perform labour relations advisory and consulting services as part of HEABC’s in-house legal services and labour relations team
Provide advice and opinions on policy and labour relations issues
Attend trouble-shooter and expedited hearings
Assist with negotiations planning
Support the Lead Negotiator at the bargaining table with research and drafting documents
Provide labour relations advice to members on labour, employment law, privacy law, workplace health and safety, and human rights law issues
Interpret collective agreements, legislation, and policy
Apply established interpretations and guidelines consistently across the health sector
Establish and maintain working relationships with member organizations, health sector unions, outside agencies, and HEABC colleagues
Represent HEABC and member organizations at meetings to resolve disputes before formal third-party hearings
Address employer-specific and industry issues
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in industrial relations, business or a related discipline from an accredited University
Minimum of seven (7) years’ recent, related experience in labour relations and/or labour and employment law or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
Knowledge of health sector labour relations, related legislation, collective agreements and jurisprudence
Strong oral and written communication skills
Demonstrated analytical, conflict resolution and problem-solving skills
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
Demonstrated ability to organize, plan and execute work within demanding work schedules
Must live within commuting distance of the Vancouver office
