Responsibilities
Conducting technical reviews of Locate Requests submitted by the construction sector in the City of Toronto.
Assessing the implications of proposed excavations on existing municipal infrastructure.
Providing direction to stakeholders on excavation proposals.
Managing technical aspects of City programs geared towards the protection of potable water systems, optimization of water usage, and reduction of sewer discharge.
Preparing and reviewing documents such as reports, applications, and estimates.
Coordinating requirements and reviewing designs, specifications, and other technical documentation.
Preparing/reviewing procurement documents and administering contracts.
Maintaining, updating, retrieving/analyzing data from various systems using various tools and technologies.
Performing and/or reviewing research, calculations, and analyzing technical data.
Conducting surveys, investigations, tests, and studies for various proposals and projects.
Overseeing field investigations and assessments of asset conditions.
Searching, evaluating, and analyzing municipal infrastructure records and plans.
Performing and interpreting technical drawings and mapping data.
Assisting with preparation of budget and tracking expenditures/revenues.
Instructing and providing leadership to junior staff on projects or program delivery.
Preparing instructions, policies, procedures, and conducting training.
Requirements
Post-secondary education completed in Engineering & Technology Program or approved equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience performing manual and computerized mathematical calculations used in technical and engineering analyses.
Experience with analysis & interpretation of engineering design and drawings, specification, reports etc.
Must possess and be able to maintain a valid Province of Ontario, Class “G” Driver’s License.
Ability to use data base & Microsoft Office applications (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access etc.).
Highly developed interpersonal skills with the ability to interact and communicate effectively with all levels of the organization as well as with external clients.
Advanced understanding in the principles and application of Engineering theories, methods and practices.
Ability to interpret technical engineering drawings and documents (e.g. plans and profiles, specifications etc.)
Ability in resolving customer concerns through both effective writing and concise oral communication.
Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and meet established deadlines.
Ability to produce high quality error free work with a strong attention to detail.
Ability to plan, prioritize work, and provide instruction and direction/training to other staff.
Knowledge of procurement and other purchasing procedures, such as, tendering and administration of construction contracts, request for proposals etc.
Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its regulations that apply to this work.
Must be able to travel to various work locations as assigned.

Membership or eligibility for membership in the Ontario Association of Engineering, Technicians and Technologists (OACETT) is an asset.
Experience in the design and construction of storm sewers, sanitary sewers, watermains and stormwater management facilities would be an asset.
Experience with mechanical and plumbing design would be an asset.
Experience in the use of GIS mapping applications would be an asset.
Knowledge of the Ontario Building Code would be an asset.
