About the role

  • Senior Communications Advisor supporting Trillium Health Partners’ major hospital redevelopment projects. Leading community engagement, media relations and strategic communications across Mississauga and west Toronto.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and execution of strategic communications plans supporting organizational priorities and major initiatives
  • Lead and support community engagement and outreach initiatives, including events, on-site engagements, tours and information-sharing opportunities
  • Provide strategic communications counsel to senior leaders and internal clients
  • Develop community engagement strategies, messaging, materials and briefing tools for major projects and redevelopment activities
  • Gather community feedback, identify emerging questions or concerns, and share insights with internal teams
  • Translate complex, technical and clinical information into clear, accessible and compelling content
  • Develop key messages, media releases, briefing notes, newsletters, speaking remarks and digital content
  • Identify, develop and pitch newsworthy stories to media
  • Manage emerging issues and contribute to risk mitigation, including communications on-call participation
  • Use digital, social and visual storytelling, including video, photography and web content
  • Collaborate across multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated communications

Requirements

  • University degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or a related field
  • 7–10+ years of progressive experience in communications, public affairs, community engagement, stakeholder relations or a related field
  • Experience supporting community engagement, consultation, outreach or stakeholder relations activities
  • Strong facilitation, consultation and relationship-building skills
  • Knowledge of IAP2 principles or public participation frameworks is an asset
  • Exceptional writing, editing and content development skills
  • Experience providing strategic communications counsel to senior leaders and internal clients
  • Experience in media relations, including pitching and placing stories
  • Strong understanding of digital communications and visual or multimedia storytelling
  • Excellent interpersonal, client management and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and tight deadlines
  • Experience in health care, public sector, infrastructure, government relations or community-facing organizations is an asset
  • Reliable access to a vehicle is required
  • Ability to work some evenings and weekends
