About the role

  • Senior engineer scaling petabyte-scale PostgreSQL infrastructure for TRM Labs’ AI-powered crime-fighting intelligence platforms. Automating database operations, optimizing performance, and managing CDC pipelines remotely.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, operate, and scale relational database systems serving data at petabyte scale
  • Own the database serving layer end to end, including query performance, cost, and availability
  • Tune queries, design indexes, and optimize schemas for petabyte-scale Postgres/Citus
  • Use AI-assisted analysis to identify compression and data-model opportunities and ship validated production changes
  • Build agentic automation for database operations such as pgbouncer provisioning, disk scaling, and blue-green deployments
  • Drive validation of database changes before production deployment
  • Manage CDC pipelines using PeerDB, Fivetran, and Debezium and debug replication failures
  • Migrate workloads from first-generation infrastructure and prototype new data stores
  • Create AI-native runbooks and internal tooling
  • Coordinate schema changes across product-engineering teams
  • Participate in an on-call rotation approximately once every 15 days, with each shift a 24-hour window across two days

Requirements

  • 5–8 years building and operating production PostgreSQL (Citus, Aurora, AlloyDB, or equivalent distributed Postgres)
  • Deep SQL optimization skills, including Explain Plans, CTEs, window functions, partitioning, index design, and query-planner behavior in distributed environments
  • Hands-on experience with CDC tools such as PeerDB, Fivetran, Debezium, Datastream, or Airbyte
  • Fluency with database profiling using pganalyze or equivalent
  • Production automation experience in Python or Go
  • Daily use of AI coding tools such as Claude and Copilot
  • Track record of using AI-assisted analysis to drive measurable cost or performance improvements in production database systems
  • Ability to work across US and Canada working hours
  • Willingness and ability to participate in an on-call rotation approximately once every 15 days, subject to regional compliance review
