About the role

  • Bodily Injury Claims Adjuster investigating, negotiating and settling complex claims for U-Haul Canada. Managing litigated files, vendors, reserves and coverage issues through resolution.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate, evaluate, negotiate and settle complex Bodily Injury claims across Canada by telephone and correspondence
  • Handle direct deal and litigated files
  • Investigate, evaluate and negotiate bodily injury losses of moderate to high complexity
  • Collect, analyze, record, report and present claims information
  • Manage challenging coverage claims
  • Arrange and manage investigation vendors, including IAs, surveillance, legal defense and defense medicals
  • Maintain accurate reserves and control expenses
  • Manage claims in litigation and participate in mediations, pre-trials and trials
  • Attend meetings and seminars as needed
  • Participate in team and other meetings, including travel to meetings away from the normal work location when required
  • Handle overflow claim assignments from other teams
  • Work on assigned special projects
  • Perform after-hours and rotating on-call responsibilities

Requirements

  • Post-secondary education completed in Insurance, Business, or a related field
  • Minimum 3 years of experience handling bodily injury claims
  • 2–4 years of bodily injury adjusting experience
  • CIP designation or currently working toward the designation
  • Strong organizational, decision-making and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Expertise in file preparation and negotiating claims to resolution
  • Knowledge of claims settlement, policy wording and fraud investigations
  • Ability to identify and analyze coverage issues
  • Strong general computer knowledge
  • Knowledge of handling claims across Canada is an asset
  • Ability to work after hours and participate in rotating on-call responsibilities
