About the role

  • Advising undergraduate engineering students and administering admissions at the University of Alberta. Supporting academic standing, transfer credit, convocation, and student services.

Responsibilities

  • Advise current and prospective students and staff on university and faculty policies and procedures
  • Administer admission and transfer credit processes for domestic and international applications
  • Provide academic advising for undergraduate students, including first-year students
  • Advise on admission, registration, program planning, program completion, convocation, course withdrawals, academic standing, grades, and deferred exams
  • Conduct advising verbally and in writing, both in person and through e-advising
  • Coach students regarding health, isolation, financial stress, and career planning
  • Refer students with severe personal difficulties to appropriate professional counselors or campus agencies
  • Explain alternatives, limitations, and consequences of academic decisions
  • Interpret and communicate calendar regulations
  • Process program admission applications from inquiry through decision
  • Conduct admission reporting and collect and analyze data to support decision-making
  • Evaluate academic standing and facilitate convocation procedures
  • Contribute to student service, enrollment management, and community outreach goals

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree
  • At least 2 years of experience in higher education, student services, or a client-facing environment, focused on student advising, admissions, records, or program administration
  • Demonstrated experience or training in supporting at-risk students
  • Exceptional written, oral, and public speaking skills
  • Strong intercultural competence, tact, and diplomacy
  • Ability to prioritize high-volume tasks under tight deadlines
  • Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability to work independently and as part of an integrated team
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality when working with highly sensitive information
  • Resume, cover letter, and Access, Community and Belonging Philosophy required for application
  • Working knowledge of UofA academic policies and procedures preferred
  • Experience with PeopleSoft – Campus Solutions, Slate, and Alfresco preferred
