- Software Engineering Manager leading CNN Digital Commerce engineering teams. Building scalable web applications and e-commerce products such as CNN Underscored.
Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor a high-performing engineering team
- Drive technical strategy and oversee scalable, high-performance web applications for CNN Digital Commerce
- Develop, enhance, and scale platforms such as CNN Underscored
- Lead development of customer-facing products and tools powering CNN’s e-commerce initiatives
- Drive cross-functional collaboration among engineering, product, and business teams
- Improve engineering workflows, tooling, and processes
- Implement and advocate for Scrum or Kanban and continuous delivery practices
- Monitor application health, infrastructure, and code performance
- Adopt modern technologies and optimize architecture
- Ensure long-term maintainability through code reviews and refactoring
- Foster technical excellence, continuous learning, and career development
Requirements
- B.S. in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field (M.S. preferred)
- 10+ years of software development experience, including 2+ years in a technical leadership role
- Proven track record leading teams responsible for building and scaling e-commerce platforms or consumer-facing products
- Extensive experience in modern web technologies, with deep expertise in JavaScript (Node.js, Vue.js), TypeScript, Fastly, and Python
- Proficiency in AWS cloud services (Serverless/SAM, etc.)
- Experience with Docker/Kubernetes containerization
- Experience with Terraform and CloudFormation infrastructure management
- Strong experience with PostgreSQL, Elasticsearch, and Redis
- Experience with high-performance, high-availability applications in production environments
- Ability to lead, mentor, and inspire engineers
- Strong communication skills with technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Ability to collaborate with product, design, and business teams
- Familiarity with Agile methodologies (Scrum/Kanban)
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and incremental delivery
- Experience in non-procedural programming or functional-style programming concepts (bonus)
- Previous involvement in e-commerce, affiliate platforms, or consumer media applications (bonus)
- Experience mentoring junior engineers, conducting technical interviews, and contributing to talent acquisition (bonus)
