About the role
- Consultant Vibration Engineer solving complex vibration, fatigue, transient, and integrity problems for Wood’s energy and materials clients. Delivering computational analyses, field studies, reports, and client-facing consulting.
Responsibilities
- Conduct detailed computational analysis, including dynamic modelling, piping stress and modal analysis, acoustic analysis, flow-induced pulsation studies, forced response analysis, water hammer analysis, fatigue analysis, and small bore branch connection evaluation
- Act as client focal point for troubleshooting existing facilities and design studies for new facilities
- Lead and support team members on larger-scale projects, collaborating with vibration and CFD specialists
- Perform pipework design and field studies for new or existing facilities
- Conduct pipework vibration studies using Energy Institute methods, field troubleshooting, visual inspection, and vibration and strain measurements
- Share knowledge and improve technical delivery methodologies and procedures
- Provide consultancy, client engagement, problem solving, project management, planning, and technical delivery in office and on site as required
- Prepare timely and accurate technical reports
- Use ANSYS, CAESAR II, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, AFT Impulse, Bosfluids, and Wood VDN proprietary modelling software
- Implement Wood VDN EH&S policy at all work sites
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with customers and colleagues
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred; other disciplines with relevant vibration analysis experience will be considered
- Valid US or Canadian passport, with eligibility to travel to Houston, TX or Calgary, AB for training as necessary, up to 6-week intervals
- Minimum of 3 years of industry experience in an engineering consulting firm
- Industry experience in piping vibration analysis highly desirable
- Strong interest in vibration, fatigue, integrity management, reliability, and design
- Experience using finite element, acoustical simulation, hydraulic transient simulation software, and SolidWorks or similar computational software highly desirable
- Ability to read P&ID, PFD, HMB, and piping isometrics is an asset
- Experience with process and hydraulic calculations
- Willingness to occasionally visit customer facilities for testing and measurement; ability to carry up to 50 pounds of measurement equipment and potentially work on elevated platforms, scaffolding, or other work areas
- Excellent written and spoken communication skills, with ability to adapt to customers’ communication styles
- Strong time management and organizational skills
- US citizen or authorized to work lawfully in the US without Wood sponsorship for US applicants
- Canadian citizen or authorized to work lawfully in Canada for Canadian applicants
