About the role

  • Mechanical Engineering Lead leading design, procurement and commissioning readiness for Fusion Fuel Cycles’ fusion fuel cycle systems in Ottawa. Coordinating vendors, contractors and multidisciplinary engineering teams.

Responsibilities

  • Lead mechanical engineering services for assigned projects, work packages or systems.
  • Plan, prioritize, coordinate delivery and track progress.
  • Develop, review and approve specifications, design criteria, datasheets, calculations, drawings, equipment lists and requisition packages.
  • Support design of pressure vessels, piping, supports, enclosures, skids, tanks, process equipment and related infrastructure.
  • Evaluate design options balancing safety, quality, operability, maintainability, cost, schedule and project risk.
  • Review vendor proposals, drawings, calculations and documentation.
  • Participate in procurement, bid reviews, clarification meetings, vendor selection input and change reviews.
  • Coordinate with process, electrical, controls, safety, quality, project delivery and external partner teams.
  • Support fabrication, inspection, testing, non-conformance resolution, logistics, installation planning and commissioning readiness.
  • Provide engineering input into schedules, estimates, resource plans, risk registers, change logs and project reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with engineering codes, standards, quality requirements, document control practices and company procedures.
  • Mentor and guide engineers, designers, consultants and partner resources.
  • Travel to project sites, vendor facilities, partner locations or fabrication shops as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Ontario preferred, or eligibility and commitment to obtain registration within 6 months required.
  • 8+ years of progressive mechanical engineering experience.
  • Experience leading engineering scope or work packages in an industrial, energy, nuclear, process, manufacturing or complex infrastructure environment.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical design, equipment specification, mechanical calculations, pressure equipment, piping, supports and fabrication practices.
  • Working knowledge of applicable codes and standards, including ASME BPVC, ASME B31.3, CSA, API and TSSA.
  • Experience with procurement support, vendor document review, fabrication support, inspection/testing and engineering issue resolution.
  • Ability to lead through influence in a matrix environment.
  • Ability to coordinate work across internal teams, external partners, vendors and contractors.
