About the role

  • Mechanical Design Engineer developing advanced pipeline inspection technologies to protect vital water and energy infrastructure. Collaborating with teams to generate innovative solutions at Xylem.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and development of innovative pipeline inspection technologies and electromechanical systems.
  • Develop concepts, detailed 3D CAD models, engineering calculations, FEA simulations, prototypes, and manufacturing-ready designs.
  • Plan and execute prototype validation, laboratory testing, and field trials to verify product performance.
  • Work closely with electrical, software, manufacturing, operations, and product teams to deliver integrated engineering solutions.
  • Investigate product performance, identify root causes of failures, and implement engineering improvements.
  • Create detailed engineering documentation including drawings with GD&T, technical reports, specifications, Bills of Materials (BOMs), and design documentation.
  • Adapt proprietary technologies to meet customer- and project-specific requirements.
  • Support manufacturing and production teams during fabrication and product launch.
  • Coordinate engineering changes within the Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to develop high-quality, manufacturable, and cost-effective solutions.
  • Provide technical support for customer installations, commissioning activities, and field deployments.
  • Develop technical documentation and training materials for internal teams and end users.
  • Participate in design reviews and drive continuous product improvement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience designing mechanical or electromechanical systems in a product development or manufacturing environment
  • Strong proficiency with Autodesk Inventor, including finite element analysis (FEA)
  • Solid understanding of mechanical design, machine building, manufacturing processes, and product development
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally to support product testing, commissioning, and customer deployments.
