Financial Analyst II supporting Seaspan Shipyards, a Canadian shipbuilder serving naval, coast guard, and commercial vessels. Developing cost analysis, forecasts, reporting, and performance metrics.
Responsibilities
Perform analysis, reporting, budgeting, and forecasting services
Assist with annual budgeting and quarterly forecasts for operational overhead and chargeable project hours
Run weekly labour reports and provide analytical commentary
Support ad hoc analysis and modelling for business case development
Perform cost analysis to identify inefficiencies and communicate them to operational management for root-cause resolution or corrective action
Support divisions and financial services teams in developing and reporting operational and financial metrics
Contribute to strategic and cost management projects assigned by the Operations Finance Manager
Assist in preparing financial reports, including labour reports and financial statements
Conduct variance analysis to identify key drivers of financial performance and assess budgetary and forecast compliance
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather relevant data and align with financial objectives
Adhere to established processes and provide insights for greater standardization and efficiency
Perform additional ad hoc analyses and other assigned duties
Report to the Operations Finance Manager for Seaspan Vancouver Shipyards
Collect, analyze, and interpret financial data to provide management insights and recommendations
Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, or Finance
Working towards CPA designation
Minimum of 3–5 years of accounting and financial analysis experience, or an equivalent combination of post-graduate education and experience
Knowledge and experience in Canadian ASPE GAAP and related financial reporting requirements
Knowledge of ERP systems such as Oracle, JDE, or equivalent
Advanced PowerPoint, SAP BI, and Power BI skills
Proficient in Excel and other MS Office products
Database management skills are a plus
Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret complex financial data
Ability to work well under pressure, solve problems, and prioritize multiple tasks
Detail-oriented and analytical
Customer-service oriented, self-starter, and initiative driven
Excellent communication skills with ability to connect with others tactfully and diplomatically
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
Successful candidate must obtain and maintain security clearance through the Canadian Controlled Goods Program
