About the role

  • Financial Analyst II supporting Seaspan Shipyards, a Canadian shipbuilder serving naval, coast guard, and commercial vessels. Developing cost analysis, forecasts, reporting, and performance metrics.

Responsibilities

  • Perform analysis, reporting, budgeting, and forecasting services
  • Assist with annual budgeting and quarterly forecasts for operational overhead and chargeable project hours
  • Run weekly labour reports and provide analytical commentary
  • Support ad hoc analysis and modelling for business case development
  • Perform cost analysis to identify inefficiencies and communicate them to operational management for root-cause resolution or corrective action
  • Support divisions and financial services teams in developing and reporting operational and financial metrics
  • Contribute to strategic and cost management projects assigned by the Operations Finance Manager
  • Assist in preparing financial reports, including labour reports and financial statements
  • Conduct variance analysis to identify key drivers of financial performance and assess budgetary and forecast compliance
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather relevant data and align with financial objectives
  • Adhere to established processes and provide insights for greater standardization and efficiency
  • Perform additional ad hoc analyses and other assigned duties
  • Report to the Operations Finance Manager for Seaspan Vancouver Shipyards
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret financial data to provide management insights and recommendations

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, or Finance
  • Working towards CPA designation
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of accounting and financial analysis experience, or an equivalent combination of post-graduate education and experience
  • Knowledge and experience in Canadian ASPE GAAP and related financial reporting requirements
  • Knowledge of ERP systems such as Oracle, JDE, or equivalent
  • Advanced PowerPoint, SAP BI, and Power BI skills
  • Proficient in Excel and other MS Office products
  • Database management skills are a plus
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret complex financial data
  • Ability to work well under pressure, solve problems, and prioritize multiple tasks
  • Detail-oriented and analytical
  • Customer-service oriented, self-starter, and initiative driven
  • Excellent communication skills with ability to connect with others tactfully and diplomatically
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Successful candidate must obtain and maintain security clearance through the Canadian Controlled Goods Program
