About the role

  • Legal Assistant processing disclosure files for Alberta’s Crown Prosecution Service. Reviewing, logging, and redacting sensitive criminal-case materials while supporting prosecutors.

Responsibilities

  • Process disclosure on trial and supplementary files
  • Provide central support services to Crown Prosecutors and staff
  • Ingest electronic documents
  • Review documents for quality control
  • Log documents into Excel
  • Answer telephone and counter enquiries about disclosure
  • Determine whether sensitive information in police reports and statements must be redacted
  • Provide reception front desk coverage as needed
  • Work independently within the disclosure team to meet Crown disclosure obligations
  • Maintain extensive contact with prosecutors, paralegals, assistants, and other stakeholders
  • Handle highly sensitive and potentially graphic confidential information

Requirements

  • Two year diploma in a related field such as Legal Administration, Legal Assistant, or Criminology
  • One year of related experience in Legal Administration
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office and Adobe Professional
  • Experience working in an administrative role within a legal office environment
  • Ability to substitute directly related education and experience on a one-for-one basis
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, prioritize work, and meet tight deadlines
  • Final candidates must undergo a criminal records check
  • Cover letter outlining criminal law experience required
  • Asset: Experience working with JOIN, PRISM, and Criminal E-file
  • Preferred: Experience in a legal administrative role specializing in Criminal law
