Child and Youth Care Worker supporting vulnerable youth through trauma-informed care at Alberta government residential centres. Assessing needs, managing cases, and coordinating multidisciplinary support.
Responsibilities
Provide direct care and support to emotionally and behaviorally challenged youth in a trauma-informed environment
Ensure a safe and secure environment consistent with the centre’s philosophy and policies
Assess, identify, and implement the specific needs of youth in care
Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to develop and evaluate care plans
Work directly with youth and their families to provide comprehensive support
Provide input to the multidisciplinary team based on observations and direct interactions with youth
Maintain a trauma-informed approach in all interactions and interventions
Work in either an open or secure environment as required
Manage cases for youth in accordance with organizational policies, procedures, philosophy, goals, and learning environment
Respond to crisis situations, including safely intervening, applying approved hands-on behavioural management techniques, and performing physical restraints when required
Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Child and Youth Care or a related human service profession
Related education in Human Service Worker, Social Work, Criminology, Criminal Justice, Correctional or Police Services, Psychology, Sociology, or Education
Experience in therapeutic campus-based care, group care, or residential programs is ideal
Training in TCI, First Aid/CPR, suicide intervention, or crisis response is ideal
Case management experience is ideal
Experience working with Indigenous populations is ideal
Experience working with complex youth and completion of therapeutic crisis intervention (TCI) is ideal
Required Class 5 Driver’s License
Ability to maintain physical capacity for crisis intervention, approved hands-on behavioural management techniques, and physical restraints
Travel availability
Access to a reliable vehicle suitable for the position
Valid vehicle liability insurance and registration
Current 5-year Commercial Driver’s Abstract
Successful completion of a virtual multi-panel interview, academic credential check, professional and/or academic reference checks, Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector, and Intervention Record Check
Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW) registration, as required under the Health Professions Act for candidates with a Social Work diploma, degree, or master’s
