About the role

  • Sterile Compounding Assessor conducting inspections in pharmacy practice for Alberta College of Pharmacy. Ensuring compliance with legislation and promoting patient safety in sterile compounding practices.

Responsibilities

  • Conducting sterile compounding inspections of pharmacies.
  • Developing an effective sterile compounding assessment plan including efficient scheduling of assessments.
  • Collaborating with the Pharmacy Practice Consultant responsible for each respective pharmacy being assessed.
  • Performing sterile compounding assessments to ensure compliance with legislation and Alberta College of Pharmacy (ACP) standards.
  • Completing and providing sterile compounding assessment documentation after each assessment.
  • Providing an overall evaluation of compliance with practice and operations standards of the pharmacies’ sterile compounding practices.
  • Providing input into ACP’s assessment process.
  • Identifying and evaluating sources that may negatively affect patient safety.
  • Reporting relevant events to the Professional Practice Director.
  • Promoting a culture of patient safety and quality improvement.

Requirements

  • Completion of a pharmacy technician diploma.
  • Eligible for licensure with the Alberta College of Pharmacy on the pharmacy technician register.
  • At least five years’ experience in sterile compounding pharmacy practice (hospital or community).
  • Experience working in a highly collaborative team setting.
  • Current sterile compounding practice or knowledge and competencies in sterile compounding maintained through relevant professional activities throughout the contract term.
  • Familiarity with current and emerging trends in sterile compounding and an understanding of Alberta’s pharmacy regulatory framework.
  • A valid Alberta driver's license and a satisfactory driving record.
  • The following attributes will be considered assets:
