About the role

  • Chemist analyzing pharmaceutical samples using HPLC, GC, and other instruments for Apotex, a Canadian pharmaceutical company. Ensuring GMP-compliant results and reviewing QC documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Generate accurate results while following GMP requirements
  • Analyze laboratory samples including raw materials, in-process materials, finished products, purified water, cleaning validation samples, stability samples, and samples associated with method transfer or method verification
  • Use analytical instruments and established analytical procedures and techniques
  • Document observations and testing data according to established SOPs and Good Documentation Practices
  • Recognize OOS or OOT results under the direction of the Supervisor
  • Perform general maintenance and daily checks of laboratory equipment
  • Troubleshoot instrumentation and method problems with the Supervisor’s assistance
  • Dispose of waste solvents and order chemicals or laboratory supplies as required
  • Review and sign off completed electronic and/or paper data for trained analyses
  • Ensure results conform to specifications and GMP, in-house, compendial, and regulatory requirements
  • Verify mathematical and analytical calculations
  • Collaborate as a team member to achieve outcomes
  • Adhere to business ethics, quality, safety, environmental, and HR policies
  • Perform other relevant duties as assigned

Requirements

  • B.Sc. from a recognized educational institution in Chemistry or a related field and a minimum of 1 year relevant experience in a pharmaceutical lab environment; or Community College diploma in a related field and a minimum of 2 years relevant experience in the analysis of pharmaceutical products
  • Knowledge of Excel, Word and other Microsoft Office Programs and/or laboratory software packages is an asset
  • Sound working and theoretical knowledge of automated laboratory instrumentation such as HPLC, AA, UV, Dissolution, IR, UV/VIS spectrophotometry and GC
  • Detail oriented with problem solving and instrument troubleshooting ability
  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of GMP/GLP
  • Proven organization and time management skills as demonstrated through previous work and/or educational experience
