Contract QC Chemist analyzing pharmaceutical materials, dosage samples, and purified water for Apotex, a Canadian pharmaceutical company. Performing instrumental testing, calibration, documentation, and compliance activities.
Responsibilities
Perform analysis of raw materials and purified water using analytical instruments and established procedures within departmental timelines
Analyze dosage, raw material, process and cleaning validation, and technology transfer samples using chemical and instrumental techniques
Interpret and document test results, calculations, and observations; complete report summaries according to SOPs
Identify and immediately report out-of-specification, questionable, and non-conforming results to the Supervisor
Assist with laboratory investigations under Supervisor direction
Perform daily calibration of balances, pH meters, Milli-Q water systems, and other laboratory equipment
Troubleshoot instrumentation and method problems with Supervisor assistance
Collaborate with QC team members, share knowledge, and support departmental goals
Provide technical troubleshooting support or training to team members
Dispose of waste solvents and order chemicals or laboratory supplies
Review QC documentation and calculations when qualified as a Document Reviewer
Liaise with department chemists to ensure corrections and documentation meet cGMP requirements
Review assigned instrument calibrations for laboratory accuracy and precision
Record results in SAP when required
Work in cross-functional QC areas when trained
Perform other relevant duties, including Chemist QS4 tasks
Follow regulatory, compliance, health, safety, environmental, quality, and company policies
Requirements
Bachelor of Science from a recognized educational institution in Chemistry or a related field OR Community College diploma in a related field
Minimum of 1 year relevant experience in a pharmaceutical lab environment with Bachelor of Science degree
Minimum of 2 years relevant experience in the analysis of pharmaceutical products with Community College diploma
Knowledge of Excel, Word, other Microsoft Office Programs and laboratory software packages
Strong knowledge of automated laboratory instrumentation such as HPLC, AA, UV, IR, UV/VIS Spectrophotometry and GC
Excellent written and verbal English communication skills
Knowledge of cGMP/cGLP
Detail oriented with problem solving and instrument troubleshooting ability
Strong organization and time management skills
Excellent interpersonal skills
Knowledge of UV, FT-IR, Karl Fischer Water Tester, pH Meter, HPLC, Titration, Fluorimetric, Column Chromatography, Auto-Titrator, Viscometer, TLC, AA, GC, DSC, Melting Point, and Particle Size Laser
Compliance with Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act, Apotex Health and Safety policies, and Safe Work Procedures
