About the role

  • Senior Quantity Surveyor managing cost planning, contracts, procurement, and risk for Arcadis’ Canadian construction and infrastructure projects. Supporting sustainable delivery across the full project lifecycle.

Responsibilities

  • Lead cost planning and estimating throughout the project lifecycle
  • Prepare and maintain project cost plans and budgets from concept through execution, handover, and warranty phases across Canada
  • Produce quantity take-offs and cost estimates using Canadian market rates, regional labour productivity norms, and local supply chain intelligence
  • Support feasibility studies, investment appraisals, and benchmarking
  • Manage commercial and contract responsibilities under Arcadis policies and Canadian contract standards, including NEC and CCDC
  • Administer contracts, variations, claims, extensions of time, and final account settlements
  • Oversee contractor payment applications, valuations, and final accounts
  • Lead or support procurement and tendering activities, including tender documents, bid evaluation, and tender reports
  • Provide procurement strategy advice aligned with Canadian public procurement rules
  • Monitor project costs and prepare monthly cost reports and forecasts
  • Track committed and forecast expenditure, change control, and contingency utilisation
  • Identify and manage commercial and cost risks and implement mitigation measures
  • Engage in value engineering workshops and provide life-cycle cost and sustainability advice
  • Build relationships with clients, contractors, subconsultants, and internal Arcadis teams
  • Support and mentor junior quantity surveyors and quality-assure their outputs
  • Present commercial and cost information to stakeholders
  • Ensure compliance with Arcadis procedures, client governance, and Canadian statutory requirements including tax, HST/GST, and import duties

Requirements

  • Strong commercial acumen and attention to detail
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills
  • Bilingualism (English/French) an advantage depending on region
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively within multi-disciplinary project teams across Canada
  • Proactive problem-solving ability with clear commercial recommendations
  • Proficiency with MS Office and cost management/estimating software
  • Awareness of Canadian sustainability initiatives and codes
  • Professional membership of CIQS or RICS is preferred
  • Experience estimating Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing systems is advantageous
  • Familiarity with Canadian cost databases and estimating tools is desirable
