About the role

  • Senior Quantity Surveyor supporting construction and infrastructure projects in Canada. Leading cost management and commercial responsibilities across the project lifecycle in a hybrid environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead cost planning and estimating throughout the project lifecycle
  • Prepare and maintain project cost plans and budgets from concept through execution, handover, and warranty phases for projects across Canada
  • Produce detailed quantity take-offs and cost estimates using Canadian market rates, regional labour productivity norms, and local supply chain intelligence
  • Support feasibility studies, investment appraisals, and benchmarking to inform early-stage decision-making
  • Manage commercial and contract responsibilities in line with Arcadis policies and Canadian contract standards, including NEC, CCDC, and other relevant forms
  • Administer contracts and handle variations, claims, extensions of time, and final account settlements while ensuring provincial and federal compliance
  • Oversee contractor payment applications, valuations, and final accounts to ensure accuracy and timely processing
  • Lead or support procurement and tendering activities; prepare tender documents, evaluate bids, and produce tender reports and recommendations
  • Provide procurement advice on appropriate strategies to meet project objectives and align with Canadian public procurement rules when applicable
  • Monitor project costs, prepare monthly cost reports and forecasts, and track committed and forecast expenditure, change control, and contingency utilisation to support financial governance and reporting
  • Identify and manage commercial and cost risks, proposing and implementing mitigation measures
  • Engage in value engineering workshops and provide life-cycle cost and sustainability advice, including whole-life costing and carbon impact considerations aligned with Canadian green building standards
  • Build strong relationships with clients, contractors, subconsultants, and internal Arcadis teams; support and mentor junior quantity surveyors and quality-assure their outputs
  • Present commercial and cost information clearly to stakeholders and ensure compliance with Arcadis procedures, client governance, and local statutory requirements such as tax, HST/GST, and import duties

Requirements

  • Strong commercial acumen and attention to detail
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills; bilingualism (English/French) an advantage depending on region
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively within multi-disciplinary project teams across Canada
  • Proactive problem-solver who presents clear options and commercial recommendations
  • Proficient with MS Office and cost management/estimating software; familiarity with Canadian cost databases and estimating tools is desirable
  • Commitment to sustainability, quality and client service with awareness of Canadian sustainability initiatives and codes
  • Professional member of CIQS or RICS is preferred.
  • Experience in estimating Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing systems is advantageous
