About the role

  • Expert software engineer developing Arista Networks’ Linux-based EOS operating system for data-center networking products. Designing hardware APIs, implementing C/C++/Python software, and owning testing through deployment.

Responsibilities

  • Join Arista Networks’ Extensible Operating System (EOS) software development team
  • Gather functional and technical requirements with engineers and marketing team members
  • Write functional specifications, design specifications, and test plans
  • Develop software for Arista’s Linux-based EOS network operating system
  • Implement drivers and APIs to manage hardware devices in Linux
  • Implement solutions in C, C++, and Python
  • Develop and execute automated tests
  • Debug and fix issues found by automated tests
  • Implement, test, and debug networking infrastructure, including AI networking
  • Analyze customer installation problems with Customer Support Engineers and provide software releases or patches
  • Analyze System Test Engineer findings and provide fixes
  • Mentor new and junior engineers
  • Review and contribute to team specifications and implementations
  • Create and update implementation and debugging schedules and report them to the project lead
  • Own projects from definition through deployment and be responsible for deliverable quality

Requirements

  • BS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering plus 12 years of experience, or MS plus 10 years, or Ph.D. plus 7 years, or equivalent work experience
  • Knowledge of C, C++, and Python
  • Hands-on experience working with open source software
  • Experience writing Linux drivers and APIs for managing hardware or software resources
  • Experience programming ASICs and other custom hardware
  • Ability to utilize, test, and debug open source software libraries and other development software
  • Knowledge of distributed-systems infrastructure functions including messaging, signalling, databases, and command-line interface techniques
  • Applied understanding of software engineering principles
  • Strong problem-solving and software-troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to design and independently implement solutions to small-sized problems
  • Ability to work on a small team solving medium-sized problems with limited oversight
