About the role

  • Radiation Protection Director managing nuclear safety programs, staff, and compliance for AtkinsRéalis’ CANDU engineering business. Supporting Canadian and international nuclear projects.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the radiation protection functional discipline for the Candu Business Unit
  • Manage Health Physics support to Candu retube projects nationally and internationally
  • Manage radiation protection for Candu Field Services teams inspecting and testing client Candu reactors
  • Manage radiation protection in CNSC-licensed facilities and new Candu-related work
  • Support bids for Candu projects and scope radiation protection services
  • Hire, develop, and train health physics and radiation protection staff
  • Develop, maintain, and implement Radiation Protection, Radioactive Waste Management, Environment, and Transport of Radioactive Materials Programs associated with the CNSC license
  • Develop, maintain, and implement radiation protection standards for projects and client-site work
  • Support Candu projects with project management and clients to protect staff and fulfill legal and due diligence requirements across jurisdictions
  • Develop radiation protection performance reports and metrics for projects and senior management
  • Gather and share OPEX to promote continual learning and improve radiation protection standards
  • Conduct oversight activities to ensure effective radiation protection performance

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in Health Physics or equivalent
  • Experience dealing with a large organization to address broad-scope radiation safety needs
  • Experience applying high radiation safety standards expected in nuclear power plants
  • 10+ years’ experience managing and supervising radiation protection staff in a leadership role
  • Experience in national and international radioactive material shipment considered an asset
  • Experience managing international clients considered an asset
  • Good working knowledge of Canadian radiation protection, radioactive waste management, and transport of radioactive materials legislation
  • Ability to address worker radiation safety concerns by explaining program application requirements and safety principles
  • Ability to support and manage a positive working environment
  • Ability to recruit, interview, and/or select staff with appropriate skills and establish training and development
  • Ability to uphold high radiation protection standards in a commercial environment
  • Excellent organizational, oral and written communication, and customer relationship skills
  • Effective communication of radiation safety compliance requirements
