About the role

  • Aviva Canada auto underwriting executive managing national personal insurance portfolio strategy. Driving regulatory compliance, analytics, product modernization, and profitable growth.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the national personal insurance auto portfolio
  • Develop and implement corporate underwriting strategies, tactics, policies and procedures using data insights
  • Oversee the team’s shift to an analytics-based, AI-supported strategy
  • Monitor the auto portfolio and optimize product and underwriting strategies for profitable growth
  • Prepare and negotiate underwriting filings with regulators
  • Manage the auto product suite through market and trend reviews
  • Ensure compliance with the Personal Insurance Underwriting Appetite
  • Embed risk culture, accountability and ownership of risk management activities
  • Ensure regulatory oversight across each region in Canada
  • Collaborate with IT, distribution partners, Underwriting Operations and Digital teams to simplify, modernize and increase automation
  • Monitor regulatory websites, regulator bulletins, announcements and IBC industry bulletins
  • Support Government Relations during advocacy efforts and regulatory reviews
  • Contribute to business strategy and risk appetite using insurance regulatory and industry trend insights
  • Lead relationships with senior stakeholders in Operations, Pricing, Claims, Risk and Legal
  • Report directly to the VP, National Underwriting & Fraud of Aviva Canada

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Business, Finance or similar
  • MBA preferred
  • CRM, CIP or FCIP preferred
  • 10 years of experience in Technical Insurance functions (e.g., Underwriting, Product, Pricing) for a global Property and Casualty carrier
  • Proven track record with regulators, industry committees and other regulatory boards across Canada
  • Excellent judgement and analytical skills with attention to detail and accuracy
  • Outstanding written, verbal, communication and presentation skills
  • High level of analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Solid understanding of company underwriting philosophy, PI underwriting strategy, policy contracts, PI products, risk information sources, and underwriting manuals
  • Strength leading multiple and changing priorities/projects and delivering results
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of an interdisciplinary team that is geographically dispersed
  • Integrity, credibility, positive relationship management, negotiation, influencing and execution skills
