About the role

  • Intermediate Estimator developing competitive pricing for AWC Water Solutions’ water and wastewater treatment projects. Managing bids, quotations, cost databases, proposals, and project handovers.

Responsibilities

  • Develop detailed and comprehensive cost estimates and budgetary pricing for standard and moderately complex bid projects.
  • Independently manage assigned estimates from initial review through completion and handover.
  • Collaborate with sales and applications engineering to define project requirements, scope, assumptions, exclusions, and estimating strategies.
  • Review bid packages, project specifications, P&IDs, process drawings, design drawings, and technical documentation to identify requirements, risks, and cost impacts.
  • Prepare material, labour, subcontractor, equipment, fabrication, machining, controls, and other project cost estimates.
  • Solicit, analyze, and evaluate vendor and subcontractor quotations.
  • Identify estimating risks, gaps, and cost uncertainties.
  • Maintain and improve the estimating database, including supplier pricing, historical project costs, and labour rates.
  • Develop relationships with suppliers, contractors, and subcontractors.
  • Contribute to proposal content and ensure technical and commercial information is accurate.
  • Liaise with sales, engineering, project management, vendors, subcontractors, and stakeholders on estimating questions, revisions, and changes.
  • Prepare estimates and supporting documentation according to company processes, standards, and timelines.
  • Develop project handover packages after award.
  • Review completed projects and incorporate lessons learned, actual costs, and market information into future estimates.
  • Improve estimating processes, tools, templates, and methodologies.
  • Provide guidance and informal support to Junior Estimators.
  • Support Senior Estimators on larger or more complex bids.
  • Perform additional estimating and project quoting duties as required.

Requirements

  • 3–5 years of related estimating experience, preferably in manufacturing, fabrication, engineering, construction, or water/wastewater.
  • Post-secondary education in Engineering, Construction, Business, or a related technical discipline.
  • Working knowledge of water and wastewater treatment processes and equipment is an asset.
  • Proficiency reading and interpreting P&IDs, process drawings, design drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
  • Ability to independently develop accurate cost estimates for standard and moderately complex projects.
  • Strong understanding of material, labour, subcontractor, vendor, fabrication, and equipment costs.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for working with sales, engineering, suppliers, subcontractors, and stakeholders.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills, including managing multiple estimates and competing deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accurate, high-quality work.
  • Ability to work independently in a collaborative team environment.
  • Initiative and willingness to take ownership of estimates and deliverables.
  • Ability and willingness to guide and support Junior Estimators.
  • Familiarity with InEight or similar estimating software is an asset.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, is an asset.
