About the role

  • Senior underwriting manager analyzing and authorizing complex commercial loans for BDC, the bank dedicated to Canadian entrepreneurs. Applying credit judgment, structuring financing, and supporting responsible portfolio growth.

Responsibilities

  • Underwrite and authorize comprehensive, well-structured loan proposals for moderate to high complexity credit files ranging from $350,000 to $1.5 million
  • Conduct detailed financial analysis, appropriate investigation, and thorough due diligence
  • Determine appropriate credit terms, pricing, repayment structures, and covenants
  • Apply disciplined credit analysis, balanced risk assessment, and effective account management practices
  • Review loan documentation and negotiate transaction structures with internal partners when required
  • Support resolution of compliance matters and material changes during transaction negotiation and structuring
  • Develop practical solutions that meet the needs of clients and BDC
  • Build and maintain trusted working relationships with business centre colleagues and internal partners
  • Stay current on credit policies, procedures, processes, and emerging credit and regulatory trends
  • Provide coaching to new employees, act as a mentor, and support knowledge sharing within the team and with internal partners

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in commerce, business administration, accounting, or a related field
  • CPA or CFA designation considered a strong asset
  • Bilingualism in English and French considered a strong asset
  • Minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience in credit analysis, loan adjudication, commercial lending, or a related financial services role
  • Experience coaching, mentoring, or guiding colleagues in a team environment
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze, structure, and assess commercial financing transactions
  • Strong credit judgment and a solid understanding of credit risk policies, practices, and governance expectations
  • Knowledge of BDC products, services, policies, processes, and procedures, or the ability to quickly develop this knowledge
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to interact, influence, and negotiate effectively with internal partners and, when required, with clients
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities while meeting critical deadlines in a high-volume environment
  • Solid business acumen and a strong understanding of the realities and dynamics of small and medium-sized enterprises
  • Collaborative team player who works effectively across multidisciplinary teams and contributes to a strong partnership culture
  • Ability to work in Canada
