About the role

  • Assistant Project Manager coordinating preconstruction, construction, and closeout for Bird, a century-old Canadian construction company. Managing budgets, schedules, contracts, safety, and project delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, direct, and coordinate the daily management of assigned construction projects
  • Support the Project Manager with preconstruction documentation, KPIs, and monthly reporting
  • Assist with project setup and document control systems
  • Contribute to preconstruction planning, HSE planning, procurement, logistics, and Project Execution Plans
  • Support tender package preparation, subcontractor recommendations, and cost coding
  • Assist with permits and approvals from local authorities
  • Identify and implement efficient, cost-effective project delivery solutions
  • Assist with pricing and processing change orders and tracking RFIs
  • Coordinate and review shop drawings and approvals
  • Coordinate communication with sub-trades and suppliers
  • Maintain project budgets, schedules, and cost reports
  • Support master schedule updates and alignment with Superintendent look-ahead schedules
  • Assist with client billing schedules and invoicing
  • Support subcontract administration, payment processes, dispute resolution, and subcontractor performance evaluations
  • Maintain relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and suppliers
  • Support health, safety, and environmental compliance
  • Assist with deficiencies, warranty items, contractual and financial closeout, final reports, purchase order reconciliation, and outstanding costs

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in Engineering or Construction Management
  • Eligible for, or in possession of, a P. Eng., EIT, CET, or PQS designation
  • 5–8 years of hands-on experience in construction management, including cost estimating and direct project management of large-scale commercial, high-rise, civil, or institutional projects
  • Demonstrated experience within institutional and commercial construction environments
  • Strong leadership, project management, and problem-solving skills
  • Proven competency in safety, workforce management, project execution, cost control, quality, and project administration
  • Ability to read, interpret, and apply contract documents, drawings, specifications, scopes of work, and project schedules
  • Experience with Viewpoint Project Management software is considered an asset
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to changing demands in a fast-paced environment
  • Comfortable working under pressure and meeting tight deadlines
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills, with close attention to detail
  • Positive, team-oriented mindset with a collaborative approach to working across teams
  • May require OPP or Reliability clearance
