About the role
- HSE Coordinator ensuring safety compliance, incident management, and training on Bird Construction projects. Supporting site leadership and field crews across construction worksites.
Responsibilities
- Support site supervision with implementation and management of the Bird Safety Program
- Develop and facilitate a proactive safety culture on the work site
- Provide HSE coaching, mentoring, and advice to field personnel
- Identify, document, and control worksite hazards
- Ensure incidents are reported, investigated, documented, and followed by corrective action plans
- Maintain site HSE statistics
- Assist with planning and startup of new projects, including site-specific safe work practices and procedures
- Develop and maintain an HSE communication bulletin board
- Ensure safety equipment and personal protective equipment are available and deficiencies are addressed
- Facilitate toolbox and safety meetings and assist with action items
- Maintain field presence and document daily observations
- Review field-level hazard assessments, hazard identification, observation, and inspection forms
- Liaise between clients and crews regarding HSE concerns
- Perform worksite inspections
- Facilitate orientation and training for site staff and maintain accurate records
- Assist with administration, documentation, and management of the Company’s COR program
- Keep management informed of issues affecting the work
- Perform other responsibilities requested by site management
Requirements
- OH&S certificate or diploma from a post-secondary institution (BCIT, UofA, UNB, UFRED, or similar); equivalencies considered
- Valid Level 2 or 3 First Aid certificate
- 3–5 years’ HSE experience, preferably in a construction environment
- Valid Driver’s License and clean driver’s abstract
- Available to work out of town based on project assignments located within Manitoba
- Working knowledge of local government Health & Safety Acts, Policies, Regulations, and Industry Standards applicable to construction
- End-User Fall Protection, Confined Space Entry & Monitor, and Standard First Aid considered an asset
- CSO Designation considered an asset
- Ability to work with unionized and non-unionized trades
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, troubleshooting, problem-solving, accuracy, and attention to detail skills
- Highly developed interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
- Ability to deliver a message to a large group
- Ability to work collaboratively with a positive attitude
