About the role

  • Mechanical Project Manager leading HVAC, plumbing, piping, and retrofit projects for Black & McDonald’s ICI construction team. Overseeing budgets, schedules, safety, quality, and subcontractors.

Responsibilities

  • Lead complex mechanical projects within the Industrial, Commercial, and Institutional construction sector
  • Oversee HVAC, plumbing, process piping, and mechanical retrofit projects from planning through commissioning
  • Ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, and within budget
  • Manage cost control, scheduling, quality assurance, safety, contract performance, and subcontractor coordination
  • Maintain relationships with clients, consultants, trades, suppliers, and vendors
  • Report to the Operations Manager
  • Track progress, plan resources, and adapt to evolving project requirements
  • Collaborate with Operations and Division Managers to plan and execute projects in compliance with Corporate policies
  • Prepare and submit construction project budget estimates to JDE
  • Prepare construction schedules and milestones and monitor progress
  • Prepare contracts and negotiate revisions, changes, and additions
  • Represent the company regarding business services and union matters
  • Prepare progress reports and issue progress schedules to clients
  • Hire and supervise union labour, subcontractors, and subordinate staff
  • Review work, contracts, and WIP for risks; update WIP reports and correct deficiencies
  • Implement Company and legislated Health and Safety Programs, including toolbox meetings, safety procedures, and PPE compliance
  • Solicit and submit shop drawings between vendors and owners for approval
  • Prepare operation maintenance manuals
  • Maintain document control using Procore
  • Purchase materials and equipment for secured jobs
  • Coordinate and manage small and large projects
  • Travel to various sites or clients

Requirements

  • A university degree in mechanical engineering or a college diploma/program in construction technology
  • Extensive field experience as tradesperson may substitute for post-secondary education requirements
  • 3-5+ years of experience in the construction industry, preferably with commercial/institutional projects
  • Experience as a supervisor or field superintendent would be an asset
  • 3-5 years of experience as a Project Manager would be an asset
  • Intermediate knowledge of construction scheduling, planning, and execution
  • Intermediate knowledge of project structural design interpretation
  • Intermediate knowledge of business operations processes
  • Intermediate proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, Project)
  • JD Edwards or an Oracle-based ERP system is an asset
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organization and time management skills
  • Available to travel
  • Criminal Background Check required
  • Professional Reference Check required
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
