About the role

  • Vice-President leading communications, marketing, advocacy, and reputation strategy for the Canadian Medical Association. Shaping its brand, public trust, campaigns, and physician engagement.

Responsibilities

  • Establish the strategic direction, priorities, and long-term vision for the CMA’s communications function
  • Develop and steward integrated communications and marketing strategies supporting enterprise priorities, advocacy, public policy, membership, reputation, and public trust
  • Lead the evolution and stewardship of the CMA enterprise brand, organizational narrative, and value proposition
  • Provide strategic leadership for creative, audience-focused campaigns across communications, marketing, storytelling, content, digital, social, media, and events
  • Advise on communications strategy, executive communications, public positioning, reputation, and emerging issues
  • Establish frameworks for issues management, crisis communications, and reputational risk
  • Guide executive messaging, thought leadership, speeches, presentations, and coordinated responses to complex or high-profile matters
  • Provide strategic oversight of media relations, digital and internal communications, social media, content strategy, and audience engagement
  • Cultivate relationships with physician leaders, healthcare organizations, partners, creative agencies, media organizations, and other influential audiences
  • Lead and develop a high-performing, inclusive, and collaborative communications team
  • Establish priorities, performance expectations, and resource plans
  • Oversee major communications and marketing investments, external agencies, creative partners, and service providers
  • Foster excellence in storytelling, creative development, integrated planning, audience engagement, and continuous improvement

Requirements

  • At least a decade or more of senior leadership experience in communications, corporate or public affairs, media relations, reputation management, and/or public relations
  • Experience developing and stewarding integrated communications and marketing strategies
  • Experience with executive communications, public positioning, reputation management, crisis communications, issues management, and reputational risk
  • Experience leading media relations, digital and internal communications, social media, content strategy, and audience engagement
  • Experience overseeing communications and marketing investments, external agencies, creative partners, and service providers
  • Experience leading and developing high-performing, inclusive, and collaborative teams
