About the role

  • Payroll Specialist managing compliant bi-weekly payroll and pension administration for Alberta Blue Cross. Supporting Workday Payroll, reporting, audits, and process improvements.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the end-to-end processing of bi-weekly payroll, including data entry, validation, calculations, balancing, transmission, and employee-related payments
  • Prepare payroll reconciliations, statutory filings, working papers, and supporting documentation for regulatory reporting, financial reporting, and audits
  • Ensure payroll activities comply with applicable legislation, company policies, internal controls, and reporting requirements
  • Serve as the primary contact for payroll-related inquiries from employees, leaders, and Human Resources
  • Support Workday Payroll reporting, data validation, testing, upgrades, system enhancements, and new functionality implementation
  • Administer pension-related payroll activities, including deductions, contributions, earnings, service reporting, adjustments, and remittances
  • Identify and implement payroll process improvements through automation, workflow enhancements, system optimization, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Maintain accurate and confidential payroll records
  • Support cross-training, special projects, and other team priorities as required

Requirements

  • Completion of a post-secondary diploma in Business Administration, Accounting, Human Resources, Payroll Administration, or a related field
  • Minimum 3 years of progressive payroll experience
  • Strong knowledge of payroll legislation, employment standards, taxable benefits, and statutory reporting requirements
  • Payroll Compliance Professional (PCP) designation, or progress toward completion, is preferred
  • Experience with Workday Payroll, including reporting, testing, data validation, and system support, is an asset
  • Knowledge of pension administration, including the Local Authorities Pension Plan (LAPP), is considered an asset
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills
  • Ability to build effective working relationships across the organization
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment when handling sensitive employee and organizational information
  • Satisfactory criminal record check required as a condition of employment following a conditional offer
