About the role

  • MSW field education coordinator managing Indigenous student placements at Wilfrid Laurier University. Supporting wholistic healing practices, field instructors, agencies, accreditation, and student success.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and implement all aspects of MSW Indigenous Field of Study field education
  • Recruit, develop, and sustain practicum placement opportunities, particularly with Indigenous agencies and communities
  • Advise students and coordinate placement planning, matching, readiness, monitoring, assessment, and support
  • Facilitate seminars, workshops, orientations, webinars, surveys, and debriefing activities
  • Integrate Indigenous knowledge, cultural teachings, ethical protocols, and wholistic healing practices into field education
  • Monitor student participation, field hours, readiness, progress, learning plans, evaluations, and concerns
  • Facilitate field resolution, mediation, conflict resolution, advocacy, and referrals for student and agency matters
  • Assess and support field instructors and agencies, including orientation and learning resources
  • Coordinate field administration, registration, pre-placement processes, agreements, documentation, logistics, events, and reporting
  • Use Navigator for placement recruitment and matching, records, communications, alumni engagement, reporting, and data management
  • Ensure records, communications, and data are accurate, secure, timely, and compliant
  • Support accreditation, auditing, quality assurance, policy development, curriculum processes, and continuous improvement
  • Collaborate with the IFS team, Associate Dean, Faculty of Social Work, university departments, agencies, Elders, and external partners
  • Represent the MSW-IFS Field Education Program on committees and support IFS camps and events
  • Document and implement standard operating procedures and work plans

Requirements

  • Master of Social Work required
  • Minimum three years of related social work experience
  • Minimum two years of administrative/coordination experience
  • Demonstrated appreciation and understanding of Indigenous wholistic practices, ceremonies and cultural practices
  • Practical knowledge of social work programs and practice in a variety of social service systems
  • Demonstrated knowledge and appreciation of Indigenous wholistic healing practices
  • Superior leadership, conflict resolution, interpersonal/relationality, and communication skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent presentation skills for facilitating online training
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to review own work for errors and revisions
  • Project management, organization, prioritization, and time management skills
  • Advanced computer skills including MS Office, email, webinars, databases, online portals, Lucidchart, Jamboard, MS Teams, Zoom, and MyLearningSpace
  • Advanced technological skills using the field placement portal and online MSW field program
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with academic, administrative, student, alumni, and external stakeholders
  • Ability to work irregular hours, including evenings and/or weekends when required
  • Valid Ontario driver’s license and access to a car required
  • Ability to travel within a 150 km radius of Kitchener-Waterloo
