About the role

  • Uncertified Health Care Aide assisting residents with daily care and observation. Supporting Manitoba’s province-wide patient-centered health services at Winnipeg’s Health Sciences Centre.

Responsibilities

  • Work under the general supervision of the Manager, RN, RPN, and/or LPN
  • Work with members of the health care team, including certified health care aides, to assist with patient/resident/client care
  • Promote and assist residents with activities of daily living, including walking, bathing, and feeding
  • Assist health care team members and certified Health Care Aides within the limits of ability, competence, and training
  • Assist residents in maintaining adequate rest and activity
  • Provide constant care and/or close observation as assigned
  • Monitor wandering residents as assigned
  • Respond promptly to resident calls and ensure call bells are within reach
  • Transport residents as required
  • Respond to residents’ physical and emotional needs
  • Provide relevant patient information to the health care team for care planning
  • Obtain, clean, and maintain equipment as directed
  • Use unit equipment such as patient lifts and transfer devices
  • Restock supplies as assigned
  • Respond to inquiries, relay messages, and initiate appropriate action as directed
  • Report and record resident care provided and observed changes

Requirements

  • Minimum Grade 10 education, Manitoba standards, required
  • Basic First Aid Training required
  • CPR training in accordance with Employer policy
  • Successful completion of the 7-day Uncertified Health Care Aide micro-credential before commencing work
  • Access to a computer and internet access
  • Successful completion of 5 consecutive days of virtual learning and 2 consecutive days of skills labs
  • Excellent command of the English language, both oral and written
  • Previous patient care experience preferred
  • Competence in an Indigenous language and/or knowledge of Indigenous customs, traditions, and values preferred
  • Knowledge of patient/resident/client care techniques and procedures related to activities of daily living
  • Knowledge of PHIA, WHMIS, and Principles of Routine Practices (Universal Precautions)
  • Knowledge of employer policies and procedures and health care team roles and responsibilities
  • Ability to organize and prioritize assigned workload
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to respond to simultaneous demands
  • Ability to perform as a team member and seek assistance as necessary
  • Ability to perform extensive physical activity, including lifting, transferring, and transporting patients and equipment
  • Current satisfactory Criminal Records Check, including Vulnerable Sector Search
  • Child Abuse Registry Check
  • Adult Abuse Registry Check
