About the role
- UI Architect defining embedded UI architecture for Caterpillar’s mining and construction platforms. Guiding Angular applications, integrations, testing, and engineering standards.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the technical authority for user interface architecture across Caterpillar’s onboard mining and construction platforms
- Collaborate with customers, Product Owners, System Architects, and UI/UX teams to translate operational needs into embedded user experiences
- Define and evolve the UI architecture strategy for scalable embedded environments
- Establish reusable design patterns, shared component frameworks, and UI best practices
- Integrate UI systems with onboard/embedded platforms, APIs, infrastructure, and backend services
- Lead the design, development, testing, and release of embedded web applications
- Define automated testing strategies, performance benchmarks, and engineering best practices
- Provide architectural governance, mentor engineers, conduct design reviews, and guide technical decisions
- Develop and maintain architecture documentation, specifications, estimates, and validation artifacts
- Support delivery in a scaled Agile environment
- Perform other duties as assigned by Caterpillar management
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering (software, electrical, computer) or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience in lieu of degree
- Knowledge of effective presentation tools and techniques; ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly
- Effective communication skills and techniques
- Knowledge of technology and application methods; ability to solve significant technical challenges
- Embedded web UI development using HTML5, CSS, TypeScript/JavaScript, and Angular
- Strong UI architecture skills, including navigation models, state management, shared component governance, and versioning strategies
- Experience with Web Components and micro-frontend styled UI composition
- Experience with 3D and map-based visualization using WebGL, OpenLayers, and/or three.js
- Performance optimization for embedded environments
- Automated UI testing, including unit, component, integration, and end-to-end testing
- Understanding of API integration, error handling, logging/telemetry, and secure UI design principles
- Strategic thinking and organizational acumen
- Ability to influence technical decisions through expertise
- Knowledge of software product design and architecture
- Demonstrated extensive professional experience as a web application developer and/or UI Architect, or equivalent, delivering production software
- Demonstrated experience developing embedded web applications using HTML5 and Angular
- Knowledge of artificial intelligence concepts, technologies, and methodologies
