Industrial Hygienist Coordinator managing occupational health hazards and sampling at Coeur Mining’s remote British Columbia mine. Supporting health and safety operations, expansion, and readiness teams on rotational camp shifts.
Responsibilities
Manage the occupational health program in an industrial setting
Recognize, eliminate, and control occupational health hazards and diseases
Collect samples of dust, metals, gases, vapors, and other potentially toxic materials for analysis
Determine the effectiveness of engineering control methods and recommend control-system improvements
Conduct noise assessments and catalog hazardous materials on site
Interpret data in relation to legislative requirements
Perform respirator fit testing
Complete data entry and records administration
Investigate ventilation, exhaust equipment, lighting, and other workplace conditions affecting employee health, comfort, or efficiency
Evaluate exposure to ionizing and nonionizing radiation and noise, recommending employee-protection measures
Collaborate with Safety Coordinators on control and remedial measures
Lead educational meetings concerning occupational health
Consult with management, industrial engineers, employee representatives, and other agencies on industrial health problems and solutions
Work closely with and receive guidance from the Company Corporate Industrial Hygienist
Support the Health and Safety Manager in executing the health and safety system and achieving goals
Support the Silvertip Expansion Project and Operational Readiness teams with industrial hygiene needs
Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Health and Safety, Applied Sciences or Engineering, or a two-year diploma in occupational health and safety with air sampling experience
Approximately 1-3 years of Industrial Hygiene experience within mining, oil and gas, chemicals or heavy industrial settings
Knowledge of air sampling instruments, ventilation testing equipment and measuring devices for noise, lasers, and other physical agents
Knowledge of industrial processes, equipment, and materials used in the work place
Knowledge of British Columbia Ministry statutes and rules concerning industrial hygiene and air pollution
Willing to work a two-week rotation schedule, with 12-hour shifts per day at a remote camp
