About the role

  • Senior Principal leading tax and preferred equity investments at Crux, a clean-energy capital platform. Structuring complex transactions and guiding Investment Committee decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Lead execution of tax equity and preferred equity investments, including hybrids, from term sheet through close
  • Identify, structure around, price, and document transaction risk
  • Serve as technical authority on partnership structures and tax and capital account basis issues
  • Help junior colleagues resolve difficult, deal-specific transaction issues
  • Prepare and present opportunities to the Investment Committee for screening and final investment decisions
  • Lead negotiations with sponsors and capital partners, including new and difficult counterparties
  • Review and pressure-test complex partnership and hybrid models
  • Partner with Legal, Tax, and Risk on key issues and IRS compliance
  • Help build institutional infrastructure enabling capital partners to underwrite Crux as a GP
  • Mentor the team and drive adoption of AI-enabled workflows across the deal lifecycle

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Environmental Studies, or a related field; MBA or advanced degree is a plus
  • 10–12+ years of experience in renewable energy, structured finance, or infrastructure investing
  • Direct experience leading tax equity transactions, including hybrids
  • Command of partnership structures and tax and capital account basis issues, including DROs, basis, allocations, safe harbor, and recapture
  • Breadth across solar, wind, and storage technologies; exposure to emerging categories
  • Excellent risk judgment
  • Ability to lead and negotiate transaction documents, including partnership flips, T-flips, and preferred equity; sale-leaseback experience is a plus
  • Strong modeling skills and ability to review and pressure-test complex partnership and hybrid models
  • Tenacity, persistence, ownership, and genuine energy for the work and mission
  • Ability to lead Investment Committee discussions, guide a team, and resolve difficult questions independently
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship management skills
  • Track record credible enough for capital-partner diligence on Crux as a GP
  • Strong technology and AI capabilities, or a fast track record of adopting them
  • Prior experience at a bank, particularly in project finance, structured products, or leveraged finance, or at a developer/sponsor, is a strong plus
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% of the time
  • FINRA SIE, Series 79, and 63, or willingness to obtain them under Crux's broker-dealer sponsorship
